Every year, thousands of Nigerian families sit with the same question: how do we give our children a world-class education without an impossible bill? Canada keeps coming up as the answer: reputable universities, a multicultural society, degrees that mix classroom learning with real industry exposure, and a pathway to genuine global opportunity.
One of the most attractive options on that list for the 2027 intake is the University of Alberta (UAlberta) in Edmonton. And this year, the scholarship conversation has a number attached to it that stops parents mid-sentence: up to CAD 120,000.
Here is what you need to know.
The University of Alberta is one of Canada’s most highly ranked institutions, with a strong reputation for research, innovation and graduate employment.

It welcomes more than 47,500 students from 159 countries and counts over 340,000 alumni worldwide, which is a network your child joins on day one.
It is especially recognised in Artificial Intelligence, engineering, business, science, nursing and environmental studies, though the choice is much wider: 200+ undergraduate programmes, customisable through majors, minors, specialisations, certificates, honours programmes, practicums and co-op placements.
What parents tend to care about most is what comes after the degree. UAlberta reports a 97% graduate employment rate, and its experiential learning is not a marketing line
The city matters too. Edmonton is one of Canada’s most affordable major cities and a genuine economic and government hub with hundreds of restaurants and cafés, extensive trails, sporting and cultural events, and the Canadian Rockies within easy reach.
This is the headline. UAlberta describes it as its “most prestigious and competitive scholarship for international students,” and at up to CAD 120,000 payable over four years, it is one of the most valuable undergraduate awards available in Canada.
Be clear-eyed about the competition: only 25 students are selected each year worldwide. For the Fall 2026 intake, one of those 25 was a Nigerian student, proof that this is not a closed door.
Note that this is an application-based award, not an automatic one. Applying for admission first is not enough; the scholarship application must be submitted in its own right.
Families who do not land the flagship award are not left empty-handed. UAlberta provides more than $53 million annually in undergraduate scholarships, awards and financial support, with a mix of admission-based and application-based opportunities.
The university also offers a tuition guarantee, meaning international students entering Fall 2027 know their tuition costs for the full duration of their programme. For planning purposes, that is enormous, meaning no nasty surprises in year three.

and you will not be caught out.
Credentials matter, but results matter more. Nigerian students from our programmes are already studying in Canada and winning funding to do it.
Oyindamola Apampa (2025) graduated from the Multi-Plan Pathway College Cambridge A-Level Programme with a stellar AAA result. She secured a 40% scholarship on accommodation from the University of Regina, Canada, and is now studying Engineering.
Oyindamola’s route is worth pausing on. A-Levels gave her the academic standing; the application strategy gave her the funding. Both are coachable.
Jason Fagbamilla (2024) graduated from the Multi-Plan Pathway College Foundation
Programme with Distinctions. He secured admission to study Computer Science at the University of Alberta.
Three more of our students are already at the University of Alberta. Onyinye Ilorah gained admission to study Computer Science in January 2026. Chikamso Onah was admitted to study Economics in September 2025. Chinonso Onah gained admission to study Software Engineering in January 2026. All three went through the application process with expert guidance from First Multi-Plan Consultants and all three secured an application fee waiver through our established relationship with the University of Alberta.
We are not a directory of links. We are the people who sit with your child through the
process. Our track record is built on placements into some of the most competitive programmes in Nigeria and abroad, and our students have come through Nigeria’s leading schools, including
Lagoon School, Lekki and Whitesands School, Lekki.

Families from these schools trust us because we know what their children’s academic profile needs to look like, and how to get it there.
